World Foundation Raises $52.5M to Scale World ID as AI Drives Demand for Proof of Human

Getting bigger isn't World's biggest challenge anymore. Convincing the internet that you're actually human is.

That's the premise behind World Foundation's latest fundraise, with the organization securing $52.5 million in fresh capital to accelerate the rollout of World ID, its proof-of-human infrastructure, as demand grows across consumer platforms, enterprise digital services, and the agentic web.

The initial funding round was led by Pantera Capital and included participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings (NASDAQ: ORBS), Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto and several other strategic investors. All WLD tokens sold in the raise are locked for 12 months, reflecting what the Foundation describes as long-term alignment with the network's growth.

Rather than expanding consumer applications, the new funding will be directed toward scaling World ID across enterprises, online platforms and AI-native services, where proving a user is human is becoming an increasingly valuable capability.

AI Is Creating a New Identity Problem

The rapid rise of generative AI has created a challenge few internet platforms were built to handle: distinguishing real people from increasingly convincing machines.

Advertising platforms rely on genuine engagement, dating apps need authentic users, workplaces require trusted identity verification, and video calls are becoming more vulnerable to deepfakes and impersonation. As AI-generated content becomes harder to detect, traditional identity systems are beginning to show their limits.

World's answer is World ID. Users complete a one-time verification at an Orb device to prove they are a unique human. Instead of storing personal information, the system generates a privacy-preserving digital credential secured using zero-knowledge cryptography and anonymized multi-party computation. That credential can then be used across participating applications without revealing a person's identity.

According to the Foundation, more than 39 million people have joined World Network, while over 18 million have completed Orb verification. Since launch, the network has processed more than 475 million World ID proofs, illustrating growing usage beyond initial signups.

The latest release, World ID 4.0, is designed to support enterprise-scale deployments while giving developers greater flexibility to build additional privacy-preserving credentials on top of the protocol.

Building Identity Infrastructure for the AI Era

The investment arrives as demand grows for infrastructure capable of separating humans from AI across digital services.

"World's technology and proof of human are among the most important building blocks to secure and verify interactions in an increasingly AI-driven world," said Tom Lee, Board Member of Eightco.

As AI agents become participants in online economies alongside people, World is positioning its identity network as foundational infrastructure rather than simply another crypto application.

For World Foundation, the $52.5 million raise is less about expanding a blockchain ecosystem and more about preparing for an internet where proving you're human could become as essential as logging in.
