The Graph Network Transitions to Arbitrum: Empowering Scalability & Accessibility in Web3

The Graph, the renowned indexing and query protocol for organizing blockchain data, embarks on its final phase of integration onto Arbitrum, a leading Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution built on Ethereum. This strategic transition to Arbitrum One is set to revolutionize The Graph's operations by significantly reducing gas fees, accelerating transaction speeds, and enhancing accessibility for network participants.
The decision to transition to Arbitrum One was made through a democratic voting process known as a Graph Improvement Proposal (GIP). Network participants overwhelmingly supported the move, highlighting the growing demand for an improved network experience and reduced cost of participation.
Today marks the commencement of Phase Three, representing a complete migration to the Arbitrum network.
The three-phase plan, initiated in 2022, involved the initial deployment as Phase One, followed by enabling protocol rewards on a Layer 2 during Phase Two. Throughout the transition, ecosystem participants continued to collaborate and support developers on the Ethereum network.
Tegan Kline, CEO of Edge & Node, expressed excitement about the transition, stating, "The Graph users have continually sought solutions to improve gas efficiencies and enhance various aspects of the network. After thorough evaluation of available options, the ecosystem chose Arbitrum as the Layer 2 scaling solution that will bring speed and affordability to protocol developers and network participants."

Starting today, protocol users will have the option to transition to Arbitrum across The Graph's suite of products. Gradually, protocol rewards will shift from Ethereum to Arbitrum, ultimately transitioning entirely to the new network. To ensure a seamless transition, The Graph's core developers are building L2 Transfer Tools, facilitating a smooth migration for network participants.
The migration to Arbitrum offers immediate benefits. Delegators can now delegate The Graph's native token, GRT, with increased efficiency due to lower gas fees available on Arbitrum. Indexers are encouraged to embrace the transition as indexing rewards are enabled on Arbitrum, offering up to 300 times lower gas fees when claiming GRT rewards.

With The Graph fully operating on Arbitrum, Arbitrum users gain accessibility to valuable data. This milestone marks an exciting moment for The Graph and Arbitrum communities, as well as the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
To celebrate this milestone, The Graph and Arbitrum will be hosting an event at the House of Web3 in San Francisco. The event will also be livestreamed, offering a virtual experience to attendees worldwide.
