MoonPay Brings Solana DeFi Lending to ChatGPT and Claude With Kamino
By Lidia Yadlos
AI assistants are starting to move beyond answering financial questions. MoonPay now wants them to execute DeFi transactions too.
The company has integrated Kamino, one of Solana's largest lending protocols, into PayBox, its payment vault built specifically for AI. Eligible users can now lend crypto, earn yield or borrow against their assets through a conversation with ChatGPT or Claude.
Instead of opening a DeFi app, connecting a wallet and manually preparing a transaction, a user could simply tell the AI to "supply 500 USDC on Kamino" or "borrow USDC against my SOL." The assistant prepares the transaction, while PayBox handles the permissions and execution.
The integration pushes MoonPay further into what the industry increasingly calls agentic finance, where AI assistants can take financial actions on behalf of users rather than simply providing information.
From AI Prompt to DeFi Position
Kamino is a major part of Solana's decentralized finance ecosystem, offering lending, liquidity and leverage products.
Its lending markets work through shared pools. Users supply assets that can then be borrowed by other participants, with borrowers paying interest that is distributed among suppliers. Rates change according to factors including demand and market utilization.
Bringing those markets into PayBox means the traditional DeFi interface can effectively be replaced by a conversation.
MoonPay Is Building a Financial Layer for AI
MoonPay launched PayBox in July 2026 to connect AI assistants with payments and onchain transactions without giving them access to users' private keys. Adding Kamino expands that model from payments into DeFi, allowing ChatGPT and Claude to prepare lending and borrowing transactions through simple instructions.
The integration builds on MoonPay's growing financial infrastructure business, which serves more than 30 million customers across 180 countries and 1,700 enterprise clients.
The Kamino plugin is now live in PayBox, although it is currently unavailable in the U.S., U.K., EU and Australia. The launch offers an early look at how AI could become a simpler interface for DeFi, replacing multiple wallet and protocol steps with a conversation and user approval.
