MoonPay Bets on AI-Powered Finance With Acquisition of Accounting Startup Entendre
By Lidia Yadlos
MoonPay is expanding beyond payments and deeper into the operational backbone of the digital asset economy.
The fintech giant has acquired Entendre, an AI-powered accounting platform used by crypto and stablecoin companies to automate financial operations. The move adds a new layer to MoonPay's growing infrastructure stack, bringing artificial intelligence into the reconciliation, treasury management, and accounting workflows that support digital asset businesses behind the scenes.
The acquisition comes as stablecoin adoption accelerates globally and companies increasingly look for ways to manage growing transaction volumes without scaling finance teams at the same pace.
Bringing AI Agents to Finance Teams
Founded by Kareem Khattab, Entendre builds AI agents designed to automate accounting and financial operations for high-growth companies.
Customers including Polygon Labs, Thirdweb, Babylon Labs, Brale, Ostium, Courtyard, and DoubleZero use the platform to manage complex financial environments spanning multiple entities, currencies, and payment systems.
According to the company, businesses on the platform automate roughly 93% of journal entries, reduce manual accounting work by more than 50%, and close their books three times faster than traditional processes.
The platform is built for companies handling large transaction volumes. On average, Entendre customers manage more than 30 financial accounts and process approximately 25,000 transactions per month.
The Next Layer of Stablecoin Infrastructure
For MoonPay, the acquisition reflects a broader vision for how financial systems will operate in the future.
While stablecoins have made moving money globally faster and cheaper, finance teams still face significant operational challenges behind the scenes. Reconciling transactions across blockchains, banks, fintech platforms, and accounting software remains a largely manual process for many businesses.
MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright believes that gap represents one of the biggest opportunities for AI.
"Legacy software was built for manual workflows. The next financial system will be coordinated by humans and agents," Soto-Wright said. "If businesses are going to adopt stablecoins at scale, their finance operations need the same speed, context, and automation as the payments themselves."
Entendre's platform continuously evaluates different AI models and assigns tasks to whichever system performs best for a specific accounting function.
The goal is to create self-improving finance agents capable of handling everything from transaction reconciliation to ledger management with minimal human intervention.
As AI models improve, the platform's automation capabilities improve alongside them.
Khattab argues this shift could fundamentally change how finance teams operate.
"Accounting is one of the most underserved areas of the future stablecoin and AI economy," he said. "We built Entendre to let AI agents own the full accounting workflow from transaction to ledger."
Following the acquisition, Khattab will join MoonPay as Vice President of Applied AI.
Building a Full-Stack Financial Infrastructure Company
The Entendre acquisition is MoonPay's latest move in a broader expansion strategy.
Earlier this year, the company acquired key management provider Sodot, whose infrastructure has secured more than $50 billion in transaction volume and over 10 million wallets. The deal helped launch MoonPay Institutional, the company's business unit focused on financial institutions and asset managers.
More recently, MoonPay acquired Decent and DFlow to strengthen its trading, tokenization, and execution infrastructure. With Entendre now joining the portfolio, MoonPay's infrastructure stack spans payments, wallets, trading, custody technology, institutional services, and AI-powered financial operations.
The Rise of Agentic Finance
The acquisition also reflects a growing trend emerging across fintech and crypto: agentic finance. Rather than simply providing software tools, companies are increasingly building AI agents capable of performing tasks on behalf of users and businesses.
For finance teams, that could mean AI handling reconciliations, generating reports, categorizing transactions, managing treasury operations, and preparing financial statements automatically.
As stablecoins continue moving into mainstream business operations, MoonPay is betting that the next major challenge won't be moving money—it will be managing everything that happens after the payment arrives.
