Grizzlython: Solana Foundation Kicks Off Six-Week Hackathon Offering $5 Million In Prizes

Today, Solana Foundation kicked off a fast-paced six-week hackathon, taking place online globally through March 14. Grizzlython provides a place for developers to connect with each other while building the next big Web3 project on Solana.

During the hackathon, developers can go from idea to company in six weeks, and the winners will get a chance to pitch leading investors at an exclusive demo day. There will be $5 million in global prizes and seed funding for participants.

Since inception, Solana has placed immense focus on supporting developers and growing its ecosystem of projects. A recent report by Electric Capital shows Solana as the fastest growing developer ecosystem, surpassing 2,000 total developers in 2022.

It’s second in raw numbers only to Ethereum, with the number of developers building on Solana growing by 83% from December 2022 to a year earlier, showcasing the fastest rate of growth from any major blockchain.


One of the core reasons for the Solana developer ecosystem growing more than ten times since 2018 is the company’s focus on builder events like hackathons, new courses being introduced, and other IRL events.

The tracks builders will have a chance to develop for include mobile apps using Solana Mobile Stack, DeFi, payments, consumer, tools and infrastructure, gaming, and DAOs and network states. Prizes for fifth place start at $10,000 and progress to $30,000 for first place.

• Tools and Infrastructure: Help the community. Build the tools and infrastructure to power projects across the Solana ecosystem.

• Gaming: Create the future of gaming. Shape blockchain-based games, NFTs, and more to allow players to directly interact with P2P markets.

• DAOs and Network States: Create governance tools and infrastructure to support internet-first organizations.

To allow developers to build products together, community-run coworking spaces for Grizzlython participants will be opening around the world in Singapore, Berlin, Salt Lake City, Ho Chi Mihn City, Bangalore, Delhi, and Melbourne.

The panel of judges includes participants from Placeholder Capital, Electric Capital, Multicoin Capital, Stripe, Nansen, Circle, Coral, Jupiter, Race Capital, Drift Protocol, Wintermute, Solana Lab’s very own Anatoly Yakovenko, among many others.
