Global Investors Are Betting on Venezuela Again—Starting With Cashea's $100 Million Raise

Venezuela has rarely been viewed as a venture capital hotspot in recent years. That makes Cashea's $100 million fundraising all the more significant.

The buy now, pay later (BNPL) platform has secured backing from international investors in one of the country's largest startup financings to date, with the entire investment set to be deployed inside Venezuela to accelerate growth.

The funding was completed across two rounds led by FinSight Ventures and Spice Expeditions, with participation from U.S. endowments, global venture firms and Latin American investors.

Beyond the size of the raise, the deal represents a growing belief that Venezuela's next generation of technology companies can attract international capital despite years of economic uncertainty.

Nearly a Year in the Making

Cashea wasn't actively looking for investment when FinSight Ventures first approached the company.

"We first began speaking with Cashea in mid-2025. Even then, there was considerable investor interest, but the company was growing rapidly, was already profitable and had no need for external capital," said Alexey Garyunov, Managing Partner at FinSight Ventures.

Rather than rushing into a deal, FinSight spent months evaluating the business, including visiting Caracas to meet the founders and understand the company firsthand.

Looking Beyond the Headlines

For FinSight, the investment also reflects confidence in Venezuela's long-term potential.

"Venezuela is an underestimated market but its fundamentals are strong: vast natural resources, a Caribbean coastline, and urban and industrial foundations built decades ago. And its greatest asset is its people — educated, hardworking and resilient."

Garyunov acknowledged the country's recent challenges but said the investment is intended to send a positive signal.

"The country has faced extraordinary challenges in recent weeks, and we hope this investment gives Venezuelan consumers and businesses one more reason to look to the future with confidence. We believe Venezuela will be more prosperous than it is today, and we are proud to be part of this story."

More Than a Funding Round

The raise arrives at a time when venture investors have become increasingly selective, making a nine-figure commitment to a Venezuelan startup particularly noteworthy.

For FinSight, Cashea represents the type of business it has long sought to back.

"Cashea is the clearest proof of what this country is capable of. It is one of the strongest teams we have worked with. We have long believed in models at the intersection of financial services and commerce — in our experience, it is the combination that produces the most organic ecosystem businesses — and Cashea is executing this playbook exactly right."

Garyunov believes the company's impact extends beyond fintech itself.

"They rebuilt the credit system of an entire country under some of the hardest conditions and created trust between merchants and consumers that is now helping drive the country's economy."

As global investors continue searching for growth opportunities beyond traditional technology hubs, Cashea's $100 million raise suggests Venezuela's startup ecosystem may finally be reappearing on the international investment map.
