BTCC’s Tokenized Gold Volume Hits $5.7B, Reaching 10.7% of 2025 Futures Activity
By Lidia Yadlos
Tokenized gold quietly became one of the fastest-growing onchain trading products of 2025, with BTCC seeing that shift materialize directly on its platform.
The exchange closed the year with $5.72 billion in tokenized gold trading volume, marking a shift in how traders are gaining exposure to precious metals through crypto-native markets. Nearly half of that volume came in Q4 alone.
By the numbers, the growth was stark:
Q4 gold trading volume: $2.74B
Growth from Q1 to Q4: +809%
Share of BTCC’s total 2025 futures volume: ~10.7%
Out of $53.1 billion in total tokenized futures volume processed by BTCC in 2025, gold emerged as the fastest-growing asset class on the platform — outpacing crypto-native products as traders rotated toward hard-asset exposure.
Why Gold — and Why Now
Rising geopolitical tensions, policy uncertainty, and record gold prices pushed traders toward assets traditionally seen as defensive — but with the flexibility of crypto markets.
“The jump from Q1 to Q4 reflects how traders are using gold as a hedge during periods of volatility. Tokenized gold allows users to trade precious metals directly with crypto, without leaving the onchain environment.”
Marcus Chen, Product Manager at BTCC
For many, tokenization removed long-standing frictions: custody, settlement delays, and limited access to traditional commodities markets.
Three Gold Markets, One Onchain Venue
BTCC’s gold trading growth was driven by three USDT-margined perpetual contracts, each targeting a different trader profile:
GOLDUSDT — tracks spot gold prices for direct exposure
PAXGUSDT — based on Paxos’ NYDFS-regulated PAX Gold, backed 1:1 by physical gold
XAUTUSDT — tied to Tether Gold, transferable onchain and compatible with DeFi use cases
Together, they enabled traders to move between price speculation, regulated gold exposure, and DeFi-ready assets — all within a single futures platform.
Q4 alone saw 130% quarter-over-quarter growth in gold products, coinciding with rising institutional interest in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.
From Crypto to Commodities
The figures were published in BTCC’s Q4 2025 Growth Report, which highlights a clear trend: as markets mature, onchain trading is no longer limited to crypto-native assets.
“Gold is just the beginning. We’re actively expanding into other commodities and traditional financial products. The infrastructure is already here — tokenization is simply unlocking new asset classes for global traders.”Marcus Chen, Product Manager at BTCC
Gold’s breakout year suggests something bigger — a growing appetite for real-world value, traded with crypto-native speed and access.
